Aveda Institute – gentle AND harsh

Sick of paying full salon prices for your hair? Thanks to a friend, I’ve discovered Aveda Institute in Chinatown of Washington DC. All the services are pretty much half off from professional salons, because the stylists are in training! I’ve gone twice now, and each time, I walked out satisfied.
The first time was for a haircut, and I was out the door in less than an hour. I got lucky with a fabulous woman who was about to graduate. Very impressive. She was extremely gentle with my hair. While she shampooed me, I didn’t even get water in my ears! That’s a BIG plus for me, since most stylists tend to pour water in my ears.
Yesterday, I went in for the 2nd time for highlights. Boy, oh boy, I felt like a punching bag. The stylist was very rough on me. I think I lost about 34900 hair strands yesterday, because of all the yanking and brushing so hard. My head kept jerking in every direction. Owwwwwww! She kept throwing foil pieces on the floor if she wasn’t happy about the way it looked. The end of the comb to separate my hair to put highlights on it kept scraping my scalp – OW!!! Professionalism was NOT her middle name. She kept chit chatting with other people, complaining about her back, throwing stuff on the counter, and so forth. My shampoo experience was awful. Water kept going in my ears, her hands scrubbed my head too hard, and that made my neck bang a few times on the neck-rest.
However, WOW, she did a GREAT job with the hair color. Again, I walked out of the place satisfied! I no longer cared how unprofessional or painful she was, because I was happy with the outcome! And this is coming from someone who always has a breakdown when her hair color changes. My mom knows this.
My point is: Aveda Institute is a great alternative to those expensive salons!

No pain, no gain!
picture please!
i LOVE aveda – close by, and cheap. and i’ve also had bad salon experiences that i’ve had to pay a lot more money for – so just gotta keep the price tag in mind! :-p
i don’t really like the smell of their products. and uhm my experience there.. well you saw it… mullet like!
Amazing how sometimes end results are so worth the pain!
dang you still get highlights…ha ha ha…that’s so 2007! *snicker*
Just gotta say it… loved your hair!
Thank you, Hilary!
Erin – Mullet like?? I don’t recall?
